Yo for Mac
Install Yo
- Download Yo from the home page, open the .dmg from your Downloads, and drag Yo into Applications.
- Open it once. Yo isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS asks you to confirm it the first time. Open Yo and click Done. Then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to "Yo was blocked", click Open Anyway, then Open Anyway again, and enter your Mac password.
- Connect your plan. Pick Claude, ChatGPT or Grok, and Yo walks you through signing in. There's no API key.
- Let Yo set up its computer. Yo checks your Mac and gives you copy-paste commands for the free tools it needs (Homebrew, Colima and Docker). Then press Start my computer.
Prefer not to do it by hand? On the home page, click Set up with your agent and paste the line into Claude Code or Codex. It does these steps for you and asks before it installs anything.
Questions about Yo for Mac
Which Macs can run Yo?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 13 Ventura or newer. Yo needs at least 16 GB of memory (32 GB is better) and 10 GB of free disk space (20 GB is better). Intel Macs, Windows and Linux aren't supported yet. See all the requirements.
I don't see "Open Anyway".
macOS only shows it after you try to open Yo. Open Yo from Applications, click Done, then look again in
System Settings → Privacy & Security, near the bottom. Or run this once in Terminal, then open Yo
as usual: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Yo.app
Yo's computer won't start.
Yo checks your Mac and tells you what's missing, with the commands to fix it. Make sure you have about 20 GB free and that no other app is using most of your memory, then try Start my computer again. If it still won't start, use Settings → Bug reports → Report a problem in Yo: the report includes the logs we need, with passwords and personal details removed.
How do I update Yo?
Yo checks for new versions and tells you when one is out. Click Download, then install it the same way you did the first time. Your conversations, routines and settings stay. After an update, macOS may ask once about "Yo Safe Storage": enter your Mac password and click Always Allow.
What does the $10 a month pay for?

How do I uninstall Yo?
Quit Yo and drag it from Applications to the Trash. To remove its data too, see the privacy policy.

Yo for iPhone
Coming soon. The iPhone app and Yo Phone are in testing and aren't available to everyone yet. The help below is for testers.
The Yo app is your Yo in your pocket. Send it a message, approve what it asks, stop a task, or talk to it hands-free in Drive mode. Yo does the work on its own computer and texts you back.
What you need
- Your own Yo, set up on a Mac or on a home server that stays on. Yo is open source: get it here.
- An AI plan you already have, like Claude or ChatGPT, which your Yo uses on your computer.
- An iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
No Yo yet? Tap Try the demo on the app's first screen to look around. The demo runs entirely on your iPhone with made-up replies.
Pair the app with your Yo
- On your computer, open Yo and go to Settings → Phone. Tap Create phone link. (Or ask Yo: "Set up Yo Phone on my phone." It asks for your OK first.)
- Get the link to your iPhone. Send it to yourself, for example in a note or a message to your own number.
- Open the Yo app and choose how to add it: Paste the link, Scan its QR code with the camera, or tap the link on your iPhone. If tapping opens Safari instead, copy the link and use Paste.
- That's it. Say hi. Under each message, Sent means it reached the relay, and Delivered means your Yo has it.
Keep your link to yourself. Anyone with it can text your Yo as you, including your chats, files and approvals. If it ever gets out, make a new link in Yo and the old one stops working.
Using the app
- Approve or Deny: when Yo needs a yes or no, a card shows up. Your answer goes straight to Yo.
- Open Yo on your computer: some requests, like changes to your Mac or taking over the screen, can only be answered on the computer itself.
- Stop: tap Stop to end what Yo is working on.
- Drive mode: tap Drive for a big microphone button. Say what you need; Yo reads its replies aloud.
Questions about the iPhone app
Yo shows as offline.
The app shows Yo as online when your Yo has checked in during the last few minutes. If it's offline, the computer Yo runs on is probably asleep, turned off, or not connected to the internet, or Yo isn't running. Open Yo on that computer (or wake it up) and wait a moment. Messages you send while it's offline wait for it in the relay for up to 30 days and are delivered when it's back. A home server that stays on keeps Yo reachable even while your laptop is closed.
It says "This link was turned off."
That link no longer works, because someone turned Yo Phone off or made a new link in Settings → Phone, or because your Yo hadn't checked in for about 30 days. Make a new link in Yo and add it to the app again.
It says "This link is from an older version."
Links made by older versions of Yo aren't supported. Update Yo on your computer, then make a new link.
Yo says it's busy.
To keep things safe, Yo works on a few phone messages at a time. Wait a minute and send it again.
How does Drive mode work?
Tap Drive, then the microphone, and say what you need. When you stop talking, the app sends it after a short pause (tap to cancel), and Yo reads its replies out loud. The first time, iOS asks for microphone and speech recognition access. The app uses on-device recognition when your iPhone supports it. Set things up before you drive, and keep your eyes on the road.
What is the demo?
Try the demo shows how the app works without a Yo. It runs entirely on your iPhone with made-up conversations, approvals and replies, and doesn't connect to anything. Leave the demo any time to pair with your own Yo.
Do I need a Mac?
Your Yo needs a computer to run on: a Mac, or an always-on home server (Linux, or Windows with WSL 2). See the requirements. The iPhone app only needs your phone link.
Does it cost anything?
The iPhone app is free, with no ads or in-app purchases. Your Yo runs on the AI plan you already have.
Is my data private?
Messages are end-to-end encrypted between your iPhone and your Yo, and the relay in the middle can't read them. Your history stays on your phone. There are no accounts, analytics or ads. Read the privacy policy for the details.
How do I remove my data?
In the app, tap Forget this link to erase the link and your history from the phone. In Yo on your computer, Settings → Phone → Turn off deletes the relay mailbox and turns the link off.
Can I use one link on more than one phone, or share it?
A link is personal: whoever has it is treated as you. Don't share it with anyone else. A guest mode with its own limits may come later.
