LegalTerms of Service
The deal, in plain words.
These terms are an agreement between you and Junior Suarez, an individual. Yo is not provided by a company. "I" and "me" mean Junior Suarez. They cover the official builds of the Yo app for Mac, Yo in your browser on Windows and Linux, the Yo app for iPhone and Yo Phone (while they are in testing), the services I run for Yo (this website, theyoapp.com, and the Yo Phone relay), and optional support payments (together, "Yo").
- Yo is free and open source. The code is under the Apache License 2.0. There's no paid plan.
- Yo works for you, on your own computer. It acts on its own, so review what it asks to do, especially purchases and messages.
- You bring your own subscription. Your provider's terms, limits and costs apply to how you use it.
- Support is optional, and a gift. It unlocks nothing, it isn't refundable, and it isn't tax-deductible.
- No analytics, ads or tracking. See the Privacy Policy.
- AI makes mistakes. Check anything important.
1. Accepting these terms
By downloading, installing or using Yo, or by sending a support payment, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use Yo.
The Yo source code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 (the LICENSE file at github.com/JuniorSua/yo-app). Nothing in these terms limits the rights that licence gives you. If you build Yo yourself or run a fork, the licence covers the code; these terms only cover what I provide.
If you use Yo for a company or other organization, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it, and "you" includes that organization.
2. Who can use Yo
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be able to form a binding contract where you live.
- You must not be barred from using software like Yo under the laws that apply to you, including U.S. export and sanctions laws.
3. What Yo is
Yo is a free, open-source app for a team of AI agents. It runs on your own computer (or a home server you control). Your agents do their work in their own computer: a separate Linux desktop with a browser, a terminal and files, running in a virtual machine or container (Docker, through free tools like Colima) on your machine.
Yo doesn't include its own AI model and doesn't sell AI. It uses the subscription you already have (for example Claude, ChatGPT or Grok), signed in as you, through that provider's own tools (Claude Code, Codex or the Grok CLI). You can give each agent a different provider and model.
4. What Yo can do for you, and your responsibilities
Yo acts on its own. When you ask Yo to do something, its agents can plan and take steps without asking you about each one, and can hand work to each other. For example, they can browse websites, fill in forms, run commands on their computer, create and change files you share with them, use services you connect (such as your Mac's Calendar, Reminders, Notes or Mail once you turn them on), and send requests to your AI provider.
You're in charge, and responsible for what you ask. Because Yo acts for you:
- Your instructions. You're responsible for what you ask Yo to do and for the results, as if you had done those things yourself.
- Review before it counts. Yo asks before actions covered by your approval rules (in Needs you). You choose those rules. Review purchases, payments, messages, emails, posts, bookings, deletions and anything else that's hard to undo before you approve them. If you set rules that let Yo act without asking, you accept the results.
- Your accounts. When Yo uses your AI provider account, or a website or service you log in to on its computer, it acts under your account. You're responsible for that account, its security and what happens in it. Keep your sign-ins and any Yo Phone link private. Anyone who has your phone link can text your Yo as you.
- Third-party terms and costs. Your AI provider (such as Anthropic, OpenAI or xAI), the websites Yo visits and the services you connect each have their own terms, usage limits and prices. You must follow them, and you pay any costs they charge, including usage fees if you connect an API key. Some providers limit automated use, and their rules change. It's your job to check that using Yo with your account is allowed. I'm not responsible for those providers or for any action they take on your account.
- AI makes mistakes. Yo's answers and actions come from AI models. They can be wrong, incomplete, out of date or unexpected. I don't promise that anything Yo says or does is accurate, complete or right for you. Check important results yourself. Don't rely on Yo for medical, legal, financial, tax or safety-critical decisions without checking with a qualified person.
- Your computer. Yo needs enough memory, disk space and free tools. On a Mac, the app brings Colima and Docker with it. On Windows and Linux, it needs Docker. Installing and running those tools is your choice, and they come under their own licenses. Keep backups of anything important.
What Yo can't or won't do:
- It can't promise that a task will finish, or finish the way you expected.
- Yo doesn't solve captchas and doesn't know your passwords. For a login or 2FA code, you type it yourself, in a secure form in the chat or by taking over its screen. If you connect 1Password, Yo can fill a saved login from it. For a captcha, you take over its screen.
- It doesn't touch your own web browser. Your Mac's apps stay off until you turn each one on.
- It doesn't make me a party to anything it does for you. I'm not your agent, broker or advisor.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use Yo, or ask Yo, to:
- break any law, or help someone else break one;
- commit fraud, impersonate someone, or mislead people about who is acting;
- send spam, or harass, threaten, stalk or harm anyone;
- get into accounts, systems or data you aren't allowed to access, or test security without permission;
- scrape or automate websites or services in ways their terms forbid, or overload them;
- create or spread malware, or content that sexually exploits children;
- break your AI provider's usage policies;
- abuse or overload the services I run for Yo (this website and the Yo Phone relay).
I can't see what you do with Yo, because it runs on your computer. You're fully responsible for following this section. If you break it, I can block your access to the services I run (section 13).
6. Open source, and the Yo name
- The code. Yo's source code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. You can use, copy, change and share it under that licence, including in a fork.
- Older versions. Some earlier 0.1 versions of Yo were published under a different licence (the Yo Software License). Copies you got under it stay under it. Yo 2 and the code in the public repository today are under Apache 2.0.
- Third-party parts. Yo includes third-party open-source software under its own licences (see the NOTICE file). Those licences apply to those parts.
- The name and logo. The Apache License doesn't grant rights to the Yo name, logo or the Softies characters as trademarks. A fork is welcome, but please give it its own name and don't present it as the official Yo.
- Your content is yours. Your chats, files, memories and what Yo makes for you belong to you, as far as the law and your AI provider's terms allow. I don't claim them, and I don't receive them (see section 8).
- Contributions and feedback. If you send me ideas or bug reports, I may use them to improve Yo without owing you anything. Code you contribute to the repository is under Apache 2.0, as the licence describes.
7. Free, and optional support
- Yo is free. There's no price, no paid plan and no subscription to Yo. Nothing in Yo is locked behind a payment.
- Support is voluntary. You can choose to support Yo with a one-time payment (Chip in, processed by Stripe) or a monthly sponsorship (GitHub Sponsors, under GitHub's terms). Stripe and GitHub handle the payment, and their terms and privacy policies apply. I never see your full card number.
- It's a gift, not a purchase. A support payment doesn't buy goods, services, features, priority support or any other benefit. Everyone gets the same Yo.
- No refunds. Support payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires a refund. If something went wrong (for example, you were charged twice by mistake), email me and I'll fix it.
- Not tax-deductible. Yo isn't a charity or a non-profit, so support payments aren't charitable donations and aren't tax-deductible.
- Monthly sponsorships. You can change or cancel a GitHub sponsorship at any time on GitHub.
- Payment problems. Please email me before disputing a charge with your bank. I'll try to fix it fast.
8. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains what data exists and where. In short:
- Yo runs on your own computers. Your chats, memory and files stay there, not on my servers. There are no Yo accounts and no licence checks.
- No analytics, ads or tracking. No third-party analytics, crash-reporting or advertising tools in the app or on this website.
- Your requests go to the AI provider you chose, under your account and that provider's privacy policy. Yo's browser visits the websites your request needs.
- I only get what you choose to send me (like a bug report, which Yo shows you first) and, if you support Yo, what Stripe or GitHub share with me (like your name, email and the amount). I use that only for receipts and questions.
If this section and the Privacy Policy ever disagree, the Privacy Policy controls.
9. Updates, testing features and changes to Yo
- Yo tells you when a new version is out on GitHub. You choose when to install it.
- Some features are marked "coming soon" or are in testing (for example the iPhone app, Yo Phone and home server setup). They may change, break or go away. Use them at your own risk.
- I may add, change or remove features, or stop working on Yo or running its services. Because Yo is open source, you can keep using the code you have, and anyone can carry it on.
10. Disclaimers
Yo is made by an independent developer. Yo is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
I don't promise that Yo will be error-free, secure, always available, or compatible with your computer, your AI provider or any website. I don't promise that any AI provider will keep allowing Yo to use your subscription. Yo's builds aren't notarized by Apple, and you choose to open them. I'm not responsible for third-party services, websites, AI models or free tools (like Docker, Colima or Homebrew), or for what they do.
Some places don't allow some of these disclaimers. Where that's true, they apply as far as the law allows.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- I'm not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost money, purchases or messages Yo made for you, account suspensions by third parties, or costs from AI providers or other services, even if I was told they could happen.
- My total liability for all claims about Yo is limited to the greater of what you paid me in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 U.S. dollars.
These limits apply whatever the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence or anything else). Some places don't allow these limits. Where that's true, they apply as far as the law allows.
12. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against me because of how you used Yo, what you asked Yo to do, content you gave it, or your breaking these terms or someone else's rights, you agree to cover my reasonable costs and losses from that claim, including reasonable lawyer's fees. I'll tell you about the claim and let you help respond to it.
13. Ending your use
- You can stop any time: uninstall Yo, and cancel any GitHub sponsorship on GitHub. The Privacy Policy explains how to remove Yo and its data.
- I can block your access to the services I run (this website and the Yo Phone relay) if you break these terms or if the law requires it. That doesn't take away your rights under the Apache License.
- Your data stays on your computer, and you can keep or delete it.
- Sections 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 15 and 16 keep applying after you stop using Yo.
14. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms. I'll post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, I'll also say so in Yo's release notes before it takes effect. If you keep using Yo after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, stop using the official builds and services.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled only in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and you and I agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Either of us may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
Please contact me first. Most problems can be fixed with an email.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer-protection laws where you live that can't be waived by contract.
16. General
- These terms, the Apache License 2.0 (for the code) and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and me about Yo.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If I don't enforce a part right away, I can still enforce it later.
- You can't transfer these terms to someone else without my OK. I may transfer them to anyone who takes over Yo, and I'll say so here if that happens.
- Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by things outside our reasonable control.
17. Contact
Questions about these terms or a support payment: email support@theyoapp.com.
You can also use Settings → Bug reports → Report a problem in Yo, or open an issue on GitHub. Please don't post payment details or private information there.
